The Correlation Function in Redshift Space: General Formula with Wide-angle Effects and Cosmological Distortions
نویسنده
چکیده
A general formula for the correlation function in redshift space is derived in linear theory. The formula simultaneously includes wide-angle effects and cosmological distortions and thus is applicable to any pair with arbitrary angle θ between lines of sight, and arbitrary redshifts, z1, z2, which are not necessarily small. The effects of the spatial curvature both on geometry and on fluctuation spectrum are properly taken into account, and thus our formula holds in a Friedman-Lemâıtre universe with arbitrary cosmological parameters Ω0 and λ0. We illustrate the pattern of the resulting correlation function with several models, and also show that validity region of the conventional distant observer approximation is θ ≤ 10. Testing gravity on Large Scales
We show how it is possible to test general relativity and different models of gravity via Redshift-Space Distortions using forthcoming cosmological galaxy surveys. However, the theoretical models currently used to interpret the data often rely on simplifications that make them not accurate enough for precise measurements. We will discuss improvements to the theoretical modeling at very large sc...
متن کاملThe effect of bias and redshift distortions on a geometric test for the cosmological constant
We revisit the feasibility of a cosmological test with the geometric distortion focusing on an ambiguous factor of the evolution of bias. Starting from defining estimators for the spatial two-point correlation function and the power spectrum, in a rigorous manner, we derive useful formulas for the two-point clustering statistics which take the light-cone effect and the redshift-space distortion...
متن کاملSpherical redshift distortions
Peculiar velocities induce apparent line of sight displacements of galaxies in redshift space, distorting the pattern of clustering. On large scales, the amplitude of the distortion yields a measure of the dimensionless linear growth rate β ≈ Ω/b of fluctuations, where Ω if the cosmological density and b is the bias factor. To make the maximum statistical use of the data in a wide-angle redshif...
متن کاملCluster correlation functions in N-body simulations
The correlation function of galaxy clusters has frequently been used as a test of cosmological models. A number of assumptions are implicit in the comparison of theoretical expectations to data. Here we use an ensemble of ten large N-body simulations of the standard cold dark matter cosmology to investigate how cluster selection criteria and other uncertain factors influence the cluster correla...
متن کاملRedshift - space Distortions of the Power Spectrum of Cosmological Objects on a Light Cone : Explicit Formulations and Theoretical Implications
We examine the effects of the linear and the cosmological redshift-space distortions on the power spectrum of cosmological objects on a light cone. We develop theoretical formulae for the power spectrum in linear theory of density perturbations in a rigorous manner starting from first principle corresponding to Fourier analysis. Approximate formulae, which are useful properly to incorporate the...
